Collaboration: MEMUSI FOUNDATION
Location: Magadi, Kenya

Duration: Oct 2016 - ongoing

The Pallet Home is a collaborative construction project between Freiraum Kollektive and the Memusi Foundation (UK) to develop a prototype dwelling in the Magadi region of Kenya. The foundation aims to relieve poverty through education and has funded and continues to run number of schools in the region. The Pallet House project aims to bring low-impact building materials and techniques to the community through the use of recycled materials.

The project aims to develop the concept of the traditional Manyatta dwelling by maintaining the way the houses are utilised communally, such as for shelter during the night and during sandstorms, while introducing alternative constructional concepts. Our ongoing design makes use of EUR 2 type pallets and will be trialed in a UK-based prototype build during 2017.
